Mandarin or tangerine is a plant from the family Rutaceae, and belongs to the genus Citrus. Mandarins are evergreen plants, growing up to about 3 meters in height, with wider leaves than other citrus fruits. It thrives best in subtropical regions because it is sensitive to cold, especially to subzero temperatures. In the Croatian regions, mandarins thrive best in the Neretva valley, where there are excellent conditions for plantation cultivation of high-quality varieties of unšiu mandarins, which have been cultivated since 1934.
